Massage Therapy
Where to begin? Below are a few of the common modalities used, as well as their benefits and indications:
Swedish
Swedish Massage Therapy is the most relaxing type of massage. This is a Full Body Massage. The Benefits of this type of massage are wide and range in relaxation, pain relief, improved circulation, stress-relief, and mental clarity.
Deep Tissue
Deep Tissue Massage is a massage technique that’s mainly used to treat musculoskeletal issues such as strains and sports injuries. It involves applying sustained pressure, using slow and deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscle and connective tissues.
Sports
Sports massage is a form of bodywork that is geared toward athletic patients. It is used to help prevent injury, prepare the body for athletic activity, maintain it in optimal condition, and to help athletes recover from workouts and injuries.
Prenatal
Massage therapy during pregnancy is a wonderful complementary choice for prenatal care. Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy such as backaches, stiff neck, headaches, and swelling.
Hot Stone
A hot stone massage is a type of massage therapy that uses hot stones to massage the body. It’s used to help you relax and ease tension in the muscles and can help damaged soft tissues all over the body.
Trigger Point
Trigger point massage focuses on releasing trigger points, which are small, tight knots that develop in muscles that may even cause pain in other areas of the body.
Craniosacral Massage
This type of massage is geared at improving the central nervous system (CNS) in its function. It focuses on improving circulation of the life-sustaining fluids of the CNS, which reaches all ends of the body; the benefits of this type of technique are limitless. Relieving a huge variety of ailments, this is a "must-try" even if you feel "normal."

Integrative Manipulation
Integrative manipulation includes 3 major parts.
- The first part being that a board certified osteopathic physician is gearing the treatment to your specific ailments and body habitus. Dr. Watkins has been performing osteopathic manipulation techniques for over 8 years, and is very skilled at healing through hands-on manipulative therapies.
- The second part of this stems from the expertise of licensed massage therapy (LMT). Juliet Raymond and Nicole Marshall are both skilled in multiple modalities of massage, which has research-proven benefits in healing the body, mind, and viscera. These therapies are geared toward the areas indicated by Dr. Watkins, but also with the LMT's freedom to sidestep as they feel indicated for your own individual needs.
- The last part is based on the discretion of the team, as above. Skilled and trained medical assistants that can utilize various modalities that aid in healing. These may include therapies as simple as heat and vibration, or as intricate and complicated as IR and ultrasound therapy. Modalities are directed by physician and LMTs.
Prolotherapy
Chronic pain that won't seem to dissipate? Prolotherapy is a unique approach to pain control, that is geared toward actually CAUSING INFLAMMATION. Weird, I know. Why would you want to cause more inflammation? In a nutshell this is because your body needs it to complete healing. Taking all those anti-inflammatories (Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Aspirin, etc...) have not only been causing ulcers, but also have been keeping your body from healing.
Prolotherapy causes the tissue to become inflamed, remodel, and subsequently heal itself. Typically prolotherapy should take about 5 to 7 sessions, spaced about 4-6 weeks apart. During treatment you should avoid any medications that can reduce inflammation, and activity is recommended. It can be used on muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. It has been shown to increase joint cartilage in severe arthritis, as well as heal a variety of conditions that have failed to heal through other conservative means.
